about

Girl Jam, in celebration of women's month, features female artists through communion of one another's passions and interests. Girl jams allow women to practice their art and to embrace artistic achievements of all forms.

Giselle Anguizola created the first California Girl Jam in 2005, in Los Angeles to celebrate the role of women in vernacular or early american dance. The event provides lindy hopper dancers with a workshop devoted entirely to the follower's perspective.

Since the California debut, Girl Jams and other follower-focused dance events have been hosted in nearly every region of the United States and Australia. For more information about U.S. Girl Jams, check out www.girljam.us.

Philosophy

"I see Girl Jam as a celebration of women. It's an opportunity for women to inspire one another in a supportive, collective way and take this inspiration to the dance floor through partnered dance.

It's a chance to take what has been 'hiding' and let it shine. I emphasize individuality and I hope that follows can bring these concepts to their partnered dance to both continue and enliven it.

I hope to see Girl Jams develop into a place where women artists of all styles can honor each other's expressive natures. The Girl Jams that I host are rooted in Jazz culture because of my own personal passion and reverance for this great American art form."
