Northwest Girl Jam

INSTRUCTORS

Giselle Anguizola

San Diego, CA

From the time she first heard Jazz, Giselle knew that an expression must be made.  To her, American Vernacular Dance provides this expression of Jazz music.  For the last eight years she has dedicated herself to the preservation of this art & continues as a researcher and teacher of Jazz Dancing.  She has won championships at ALHC, ULHS, NADC, CH, Rhythmic Arts Festival, and many more.  She is an active organizer of the L.A. Binge, a member of Mad Dog, co-founder of the line-dance “Hot Pockets”, and founder of the first all American “California Girl Jam”; a workshop dedicated to women.  She hopes to inspire others to feel the music, search for their own expression, and add to the endless creation of Jazz Dancing.

Lucy Falkner

Vancouver, BC

Lucy Falkner dances, teaches, djs, and performs mainly in Vancouver, BC, where she is committed to supporting and being inspired by a thriving and enthusiastic Lindy Hop scene. Addicted to Lindy Hop since her introduction to the dance in 1999, Lucy has expanded her music and dance interests to include Charleston and Tap, and has been exploring the roots of jazz era movement through African dance since her visit to West Africa in 2000. In her teaching, Lucy strives to focus on basics, encouraging her students to have a strong sense of the music, partner skills, body awareness, and rhythm, so that, from that foundation, they can throw caution to the wind, put their own style into their movement, listen to the music, and, in a word, dance.

Mia Goldsmith

Seattle, WA

Mia, from Seattle, Washington, is rising quickly in the world of Balboa and Lindy Hop. 2005 brought a string of impressive competition placements, including 1st (2 years in a row!) in the Rhythmic Arts Festival Jack and Jill, 1st in the Balboa division at RAF,  2nd in the Ultimate Lindy Hop Showdown Slow Division, 2nd in the Northwest Balboa Fest Championship Division, 1st in the Pro-Am Division at the All Balboa Weekend, and many more. She has taught in Japan, Canada, France and various cities across the U.S., while teaching weekly classes at the Century Ballroom in her hometown of Seattle. Her dancing is light as a feather, smooth, stylish, and tastefully creative.

Emily Hoffberg

Los Angeles , CA

Emily Hoffberg has been dancing lindy hop since 1999. Originally from San Francisco, she is now a well-known dancer in the LA scene. As a nationally ranked competitor, she is an ALHC and ULHS champion. After spending a year dancing in Japan, she came back to the States and won the 2003 US Open. Nothing excites her more than the great shapes that come from solo jazz, charleston, swivels and a bad ass rock step.

Jojo Jackson

Ithaca, NY

Jojo Jackson began dancing lindy hop in Ithaca, NY in 1998 and has  since taught, competed, judged, and performed all over the country.  She is an American Lindy Hop champion, a four-time Ultimate Lindy Hop Showdown champion, and has performed with teams such as Minnie's Moochers and Mad Dog. Jojo's dancing is dynamic, tends to defy gravity, and her  mom thinks she's quite a catch.

Robin Nunnally

Seattle, WA

Robin has been dancing, performing and teaching throughout the Pacific NW for the past 10 years and is known for her "little feet of fury" on the dance floor. She has placed at numerous competitions including Camp Hollywood, Ultimate Lindy Hop Showdown, Pacific NW Lindyhop Championships and the US Open. She is a long time member of Seattle's Jackson St. Lindy Hoppers and the creator and co-organizer of the annual Killer Diller Ball at the Century Ballroom. Robin loves to think of her dancing as a melting pot of the many dance influences she's studied over the years and is extremely excited to be teaching this year at Girl Jam and sharing the awesome energy of vernacular jazz dancing.

Lorraine O'Neal

Seattle, WA

Sorry boys, Lorraine lost her heart to swing dancing back in 1998. She has since become a dedicated Lindy, Balboa, and Charleston addict, traveling throughout the United States to dance, teach, compete, and pick up a few titles along the way. Lorraine currently teaches in the Seattle area and helps run One O'clock Jump, a local dance venue. Lorraine's dance specialties include embracing the euphoric, free spirit of lindy and the grace of balboa. She hopes to share some of this love with y'all.

Casey Schneider

Seattle, WA

Casey learned to Lindy Hop in 1998, founding the swing dance club at Central Washington University. Today, she enjoys teaching Lindy Hop, Charleston and solo vernacular jazz dance, and finds her greatest learning inspiration from her fellow follows. She has placed in local, regional and national competitions, including the Pacific Northwest Lindy Hop Championships, Camp Jitterbug Lindy Hop and Jack and Jill competitions, and the Ultimate Lindy Hop Showdown.  Casey is also a member of Seattle's Jackson St. Lindy Hoppers and teaches regularly for Savoy Swing Club.
